Speed can be affected by a number of things.
The distance between your device and the router can cause poor connectivity. If you connect your device to the 5Ghz network the signal is stronger as long as you are close to the access point (i.e. in an apartment). If you connect your device to the 2.4Ghz network you can access it from further away but will experience interference from other devices in your home (microwave, wireless remotes, etc.).
The age of your device can also affect your speeds, older devices are not capable of today’s fastest speeds.
